Sunday Cravings

I have this theory that we are all have the little fat kid that lives inside of us. This greedy, overindulgent persona that can get us into trouble if we allow him to make decisions for us regularly. Letting the fat kid rule means giving into every craving we have, refusing to do anymore than the minimum, and generally slacking in life. This does not stop at the door of fitness. If we allow ourselves to fail in one area of our life it ABSOLUTELY affects every other area in our life. Ask anyone who has engaged in a regimented diet and exercise plan. It refines your character and resets the bar for “good enough” in life.  By quieting the fat kid we can lead disciplined, productive lives and maintain a good quality of health.

Now, there comes a time when the fat kid needs to speak or we can all get a little crazy. To prove this case; every fitness competitor before a show. If you have ever dieted for that long you know you get a little bugged out obsessing over all the “cheat foods” you are going to have as soon as the show is over. I used to get online and make lists of foods I wanted from restraunts every night. It will control your conscious and subconscious thinking at some point if you stifle your fat kid. This is why I tell my clients to have a cheat meal once or twice a week if they have been dieting for an extended period of time. This keeps your craving at a healthy level.

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been enjoying myself regularly with healthy meals out and cocktails on the weekend. I have been feeling great. BUT, for the last week I cannot stop thinking about this stupid wedding cake  tasting (I am getting married in August). My aunt is making my cake and would like me to do a tating at some point.  It started with me realizing the my Dad’s birthday was one week from my engagement photo shoot that I really wanted to get lean for. I had planned on asking her to make him several cakes that I could test for his birhtday since she usually bakes him a cake anyway, but I was worried what the cake would do to my body for the photo shoot.

This led to an obsession: dreams about cake, conjouring up plans about how I could reschedule my Dad’s party for after our photo shoot, and then food porn on Pinterest. I knew I needed to let the fat kid speak before I got out of control.

So, while strolling around Costco this past Sunday sniffing every baked good and watching my fiance do the same with his fat kid foods; I made a decision to let the fat kid rule for the afternoon Kate style.

I bought a Costco size Kashi Cereal and almond butter and came home and made healthy-ish cinnamon raisin energy balls and chocoalte/ almmond butter Kashi bark. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world for me but I had more than I should and enough to make the fat kid shut up. I don’t feel guilty and everyone at the gym got to benefit yesterday from the leftover treats I had made.

Since I have been getting a lot of recipe requests; here ya go!
